Parts of the urethra - preprostatic, prostatic, membranous, spongy, navicular fossa

First 2 inches of urethra - Posterior stricture (bladder neck, prostatic urethra, membranous urethra, external urinary sphincter)

Final 10 inches of urethra - anterior strictures (bulbar urethra, penile urethra, meatus)

Aetiology

In adults, urethral strictures are most often due to:

• injury from a fall onto the scrotum or perineum
• prostate surgery
• kidney stone removal
• urinary catheterization
• other surgical tools

Can also be due to infection, long term inflammation leading to scarring

PC

• Reduced urine flow
• Spraying, double stream, dribbling after voiding
• Frequency
• Urine infections – sometimes pain
• Reduced force of ejaculation
