Blood product transfusion complications may be broadly classified into the following:

• immunological: acute haemolytic, delayed haemolytic, non-haemolytic febrile, allergic/anaphylaxis
• infective
• transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI)
• transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO)
• other: hyperkalaemia, iron overload, clotting
