Epidemiology:
More common in women and asians
Presents in young to middle ages adults, can also present later in life
Aetiology: Interaction of genetically susceptible host with environmental factors (drugs, EBV, infection, etc)
SLE is characterised by ANA - Antibodies to proteins with the persons own cell nucleus - Immune system targets these proteins. When the immune system is activated by these antibodies targeting proteins in the cell nucleus it generates anĀ inflammatory response.
