Also known as pseudoseizures

Factors favouring a diagnosis of pseudoseizures:

• pelvic thrusting
• eyes tend to remain open
• family member with epilepsy
• much more common in females
• crying after the seizure
• don’t occur when alone
• Gradual onset

Factors favouring a diagnosis of true epileptic seizures

• Tongue biting (usually sides of the tongue as opposed to the tip)
• raised serum prolactin

Ix: video telemetry (video EEG) is used to differentiate from a usual seizure

Mx: Given the suspicion of a seizure, the patient should be seen in a 'first fit' clinic to be assessed by an epilepsy specialist.
