- Birth: Dry the baby, remove any wet towels and cover and start the clock or note the time.
- Within 30 seconds: Assess tone, colour, RR, heart rate.
Airway
Head in neutral position, consider Jaw thrust
Breathing
- Within 60 seconds: If gasping or not breathing - open the airway and give 5 inflation breaths (3 seconds each breath)
- No improvement in HR or chest rise: 5 more inflation breaths
- If hr has increased to above 100 but no chest rise then give ventilation breaths for 30 seconds
- If chest is moving but hr is slow then ventilation breaths for 30 secs
Chest compression
- No improvement/no or slow heart rate but chest rise seen: chest compressions
