Napkin rashes are a very common problem of early infancy. The main causes are:
- napkin dermatitis
- candidiasis
- infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis
Management
- For a simple ammoniacal nappy rash, initially advise the parents to regularly change and wash the groin area and expose the area to air as much as possible, avoiding over moisturising
- For a stubborn nappy rash - hydrocortisone can be used
- If candida add topical nystatin or topical imidazole
