A type of brachial plexus birth palsy - Erb's palsy typically involves the C5 and C6 nerve roots.

Often encountered as a consequence of a delivery complicated by shoulder dystocia

PC

• Paralysis of arm
• Observed decrease ROM
• Waiters tip position - shoulder internally rotated, elbow extended, wrist flexed, and fingers flexed

Investigations

• X-rays of chest and upper extremity - To rule out concomitant fractures in brachial plexus birth palsy

Management

1st line: Supportive care - Avoid moving arm, physio at 2 weeks of age

Adjunct - Nerve reconstruction surgery

Following Tx - monitoring or physiotherapy
