Cat scratch disease is generally caused by the Gram negative rod Bartonella henselae

• fever
• history of a cat scratch
• regional lymphadenopathy
• headache, malaise

Management

Cat scratch disease with no complications:

• Monitoring plus supportive care

If immunocomprimised with any severity of infection or large lymph nodes -

• treat with azithromycin

Suspected Bartonella endocarditis. Chilldren>8 and adults:

• Gentamicin, ceftriaxone and doxycycline
