• amyloid is derived from many different precursor proteins
• In amyloidosis, amyloid fibrils accumulate and lead to tissue and organ dysfunction - The tissues it is deposited in determine the sequalae

PC

• fatigue
• weight loss
• SOB on exertion

Examination:

• JVP distension
• lower extremity oedema
• eye lid petechiae
• macroglossia

Investigations

• Congo red staining: apple-green birefringence
• serum amyloid precursor (SAP) scan
• biopsy of skin, rectal mucosa, or abdominal fat
